yes, we did when we lived in an undesirable area, it actually caught the little buggers commiting an act of burglary on a neighbours house and because of the irrefutable evidence they were all arrested and neighbour got all stuff back, mind you we did register our cctv equipment with the local police, it has to be one with time and date stamp that cannot be tampered with.

Whyever not ? As long as you are not spying on other people.
If in doubt, ask the crime prevention officer at your local police. They are happy to visit your home and give you advice. They saved me money when I had an alarm installed. Good luck.
