The Impala is a great vehicle, as well as the Cobalt. Its all about what you need. The Cobalt is not as good as the Impala, because it is a budget vehicle designed to give people low cost reliable transportation. The Cobalt came second in Automobile Magazines test of small, but fun sedans loosing to the Honda Civic Si. The Cobalt is still the best rated small sedan, and doesnt have the serious common problems that the Ford Focus does. The Impala has always done well, and is now growing faster than the Camry in sales. The Impala is also rated 9.2/10 on edmunds.com, and is higher than all but the Saturn Aura. The Saturn Aura is the new leader in midsize sedans. An Impalas fuel economy rivals that of the Camry, with a bigger engine and nicer interior. Last year Toyota had the most recalls, but the media "failed" to notice since millions would stand against them because of Toyotas reputation. These days reputation is nothing, technology advances so fast it cant keep up. For ex: three years ago GM was one of the worst companies, now they have the most top-rated vehicles, and the quality/reliability surpasses Toyota. Honda is still on top of the reliability ratings. Ford also had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined, for reasons like exploding engines and wheels falling off. Here is a quote from the Washington Posts review of the Toyota CAmry "one of which is the Chevrolet Malibu, which in my real-world driving experience has been every bit as good and reliable as the much-ballyhooed Camry but has been maligned primarily because it is a Chevrolet". Oddly enough that was an '04 Malibu VS the totally redisigned '07 Camry. Common problems with Toyotas are useless cupholders, cheap stereo, grotesquely underpowered 4 cylinder engine, and plastic rattling until it falls off. People then complain that when they take it to the dealer to be fixed they just say "The cars are made with so much plastic its practically impossible to fix" GM is also the worlds fastest growing manufacturer, and that doesnt happen by accident.

Better for what? Mileage?
We have an 04 Impala LS, with the 3800 V-6. We drive back and forth from Minnesota and Florida. Last trip we averaged 31.1 mpg, and rode in comfort, and safety. The worst average we've had is 30.7

Well the Impala is a better built car. The Cobalt is the replacement for the Cavalier. We just traded our Cavalier in for a Matrix. Anyways, I would say go for the Impala.

if you're looking for gas mileage the cobalt would be better considering its only has four cylinders and its reasonabley priced depending on the style. but if you're looking for eitehr comfort (which too the cobalt offers) or more power then you would want to go with the impala...honest asnwer if you're not sure test drive both cars to compare then make the judgement for yourself, thats always the best way to go. thats how I choose between the cobalt and the Cougar

I have an Impala. I love it and it has never given me any problems whatsoever. I would recommend it to anyone.
I also drive 100 miles a day. The gas mileage is good and the reliabity is fantastic.
