I'm wanting to buy some things on eBay and I've never purchased anything from that source before. Personal testimonies or a rating from 1 (bad) - 10 (great) would be nice too. Thanks!

Its not ebay you need to worry about. Ebay is just a venue. It is the individual seller that you would be buying from that you need to worry about. Check the sellers feedback rating and the comments left by those who have bought from the seller. Check the upper right side of the auction page for rating % and click the rating number to get into the pages that show the comments left by buyers. The % rating is not like a test score. 97% may be a great score test but is should be considered horrendous for a feedback rating. This is my personal rating chart for making decisions: 100% to 99.5% - good rating score, 99.5% to 99% - use some caution, 99% - 98.5%, I have to really want the product to be willing to take the risk, 98.5% or lower - dont even consider buying from.

Only once did I not receive a product. It was easy to get my money back as I had paid via Paypal & just filed a complaint with them. Use Paypal to pay for your purchases, it is the safest method.

I have made over 170 purchases on E Bay from all around the world, and the only time I ever got shafted was when I got greedy, and paid forty dollars for something that ordinarily costs around eight hundred. I really should have known better!

That one instance did not slow me down, though. Just this morning, I bought an antique scroll from a Japanese seller, and yesterday, some incense from an American seller.

Check the seller's references, which are provided by e bay, and sign up for PayPal, which offers additional protection. And if it's too good a price to be true, consider that a red flag.

Good luck!!

Since eBay is not really a particular source (it's made up of personal sellers. eBay is just the hoster fro the auction.) it's hard to say that if you buy it on eBay, then you won't or will get shafted.

But, there are some guides that you can check. Make sure that your buyer has a good rating and has sufficient reviews to back up that good rating. Make sure that the ad is completely clear as to what you are getting (I remember one particular ad for the Playstation that read "Sony Playstation: 3 in Box!" Knowing the rage for Playstation 3, that small colon could really ruin someone's life.) Other than that, you should give it a shot. It might surprise you.

You aren't buying direct from eBay, you are buying from an individual selling on eBay. I've bought and sold on eBay for years, but I only buy from sellers with an extremely high rating from former buyers, and you can check that out before you bid on something. My experience overall has been good, but still, i am cautious. I only buy from sellers who take PayPal. That way, both the seller and I are protected. Remember that you have to bid on items unless you are buying from the new eBay Express. You can be outbid right up to the last minute. Be wary of that, don't get suckered into bidding more than you are willing to pay for something. I always know in advance how much I am willing to pay and stop before I reach that point. If I don't get the item I want, like buses, there'll be another one along shortly.

Good luck.

It is not ebay, but the individual seller that you have to worry about. I have been buying and selling on ebay since nov 02. I have bought things from England, Hong Kong, Australia and several other countries along with things from the US. Most people selling on ebay are honest and I highly recommend you reading up on buying and paying on ebay. There are plenty of resources on there for people. I would also recommend using paypal, there is protection from them on everything you purchase. Good Luck

Hi!

E-bay is great. However, not all the sellers on e-bay are trustworthy... There is a slight chance, but there is, that you might pay for something that does not exist. But, as I said, it's a slight chance...

I'd reccomend that you use a special, online shopping oriented card (debit or credit) so that any irregularities that may occur (also a slight chance) will not interfere with your household bills, etc. Consider this: you have your paicheck on one card, and some mone, but usually less than USD 100, on another, for online shopping activities!

Good luck!

In answer to your question, yes, I've been shafted lots of times, and enjoyed every minute of it.
