I have a very big black lab/ great dane mix. He is just a teddy bear and I want him to be in the house... especially now that it is cold out. The problem is that he stinks sooo bad. I have bathed him so much and the vet gave us drops for his ears... Nothing seems to help.

i am a proffesional dog groomer and i think i can help. first, if you bathe him too often he'll smell more due to the damaging of his skin and coat. next have him checked for yeast infections on his skin. you can tell if he's yeasty by the yelllowish gooey residue it leaves, check between his toes, and in folds of skin. look for moderate redness, slight swelling and hairloss. have you changed his food and is it a premium brand ? it makes a big difference. also it couldbe ear infectionor allergy.good luck!!

Labs and lab mixes tend to be kind of stinky in general. Its just their nature-they have more oils in their fur or coat, to withstand what they were bred for; going out in the wild and retreving in cold, wet conditions, thru grasses, brush, marshes and water. All the oils in their coats helps repel the moisture to protect him. Great danes were also bred to be outside-like most working dogs-therefore, they may also have an oily type of coat to repel moisture. (dont know much about danes)

You can get doggie perfumes, but that will just cover it up and eventually wear off.

check out what kinds of food you are giving him too-that may have a factor in how funky he smells. Do you give him people food?

Some dogs are just stinky tho. Also check with your vet and they may reccomend something for his diet, coat, teeth, etc.

Well, what's making him smell? It might be his teeth. Either get a doggy toothbrush and toothpaste and have a scrub yourself, or take him to the vet and get it done properly. He may well have some broken teeth, or a build up of crap. Not literally, hopefully. It might also be his food - try feeding a high quality dry food to cut down on smell. Feed him toothcleaning chews and treats. If you've been treating his ears, I suppose there's no point in me mentioning them. Does he like to roll in poop a lot? If so, keep him away from any smelly rubbish he might want to pounce.
