Who might have been the one person that convinced him? Or was it the expression of great masses of folks that did the trick?

He is no longer flanked by his Republican party buddies in both houses of Congress. Also, his war strategy of "stay the course" is not working. Americans are dying, the violence is getting worse, and his political base is unhappy.

I think the majority of the People overtook him, that he can not lead without the support of this nation, and his directions were going so off course, that the People no longer trusted his descisions in being a front man for all of our voices.

Yes, he lost even Republican backing on Nov 7th. Which I can only imagine is very humbling to a leader to be shown that this is not what the majority wants to see in this nation and all voices united to say so. (Or at least I can hope for that resolve)

One person to convince him? I wish that were a truth, I fear it took a whole nation to do so, if ONE could bring reason to Bush's course, this war would have been rethought over and over before venturing into a foreign land that did not pose a threat of war against the US, other than what would appear to be an asset in retaining the oil that flows there.

I am thankful of this change in the House, I could not stand to see another "Yes Man" be appointed or influenced by Bush.

If one person convinced him, it was Karl Rove. But it was also bad poll numbers. Even before the election, the Iraq study group was set up. Bush gave some speeches to get across his view of the war. But it only raised his support into the 40%s. If he couldn't raise enough support to stay the course forever, he had to find a way to win the war before 2009.
