Most people feel their homeland is the best. The U.S. is one of the few that up to recently encouraged thinking and criticism, realizing that only through allowing critics can a country improve. Hope we go back to that some day.

I think part of it is due to the fact that like most countries there is a feeling of pride in where you live and work. I agree there are some arrogant people out there. However, I would have to say that there is arrogance in all parts of the world. I can see where you are coming from but, I don't think all the votes are in, when you say only Americans think this country is the best. I have friends from Haiti that love this country and would much rather live here.

I don't understand your comment about some pathetic people pretending to be brits so they can say "I think America is the best". Why would a nonbrit pretend they are brit? And why do they have to pretend to be brits to think America is the best?
I am an American and I don't think America is the best. It has a lot of great things but at the same time is full of hypocrits. We are suppose to be the richest country in the world yet we have the largest deficit anywhere. If we are so rich, why do we have uneducated Americans, homeless Americans, starving Americans, etc.? Then we spend billions to aid others. It's good that we help others, each country should be helping each other. But history shows that America goes to war, destroys cities and killing people then stays to clean it all up, thus spending billions more. Make no sense to me. We are land of the free. That's terrific! But many people abuse that freedom. Our founding fathers didn't intend for homosexuals to have marital rights, to speak out on gay openly, for doctors to kill unborn babies for any reason, for NAMBLA to exist, for our govt to spy on it's own people without their knowledge, to let our children go un- and undereducated, for Americans to lose their jobs to foreigners, etc. America has great sights, natural and man-made, has freedoms that other countries don't have that probably should with some limits, and has potential. But I don't think it's the greatest.
Sorry but that's how I feel.

I never thought of America as the best country(yes I live in America) but just as a big and somewhat powerful. I know a lot of people who like America better than their own country. For instance many people in Germany. I am a foreign exchange student in Germany right now and many of my friends here say how much they love America and it's the best because we have so much. The big XXL drinks, the many fast food places, the big malls etc.. I honestly don't think that makes us the best, that really just shows we have money and the money we do have we spend for things we necessarily don't need. I mean seriously do we really need 2 McDonalds' within a half mile of each other?

I am American and proud to be so that I can speak freely and have a chance to make a better life for myself than people in some other countries have. Do I think America is the best country? No. I think we have much to learn and I see many other countries that have ideas that perhaps we should implement but I would not wish to live anywhere else. Hope that helps you somewhat.

you ask a question and then contradict yourself after!!!
i live in England because my parents came here from India in the early 70's. I have no problem with Americans thinking their country is the best, many english people think England is the best and so on for other countries, this is normal.
What i don't understand is why some immigrants and 2nd generation immigrant groups hate the UK and America so much but still want to live there.

u . s . a . of america is so corrupt by way of fact it has continually talked the debate yet in no way completely walked the walk ... u . s . a . of america says: We carry those truths to be self obtrusive that each physique adult males are created equivalent, that they are endowed by employing their writer with particular unalienable rights, that between those are existence, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. yet is that what u . s . a . of america practices? u . s . a . of america did no longer comprise the natives while the founding fathers landed here and took over ... you weren't civilized, you have been a savage, so it grow to be okay to kill you, scouse borrow your land and positioned you in prisoner of conflict camps (uh, reservations). u . s . a . of america did no longer comprise the Africans further here ... you weren't one hundred% human, you have been unintelligent, and it grow to be okay to kill you, enslave you, rape you and unload your offspring. u . s . a . of america did no longer comprise the yank born blacks ... you have been completely segrated and would desire to no longer vote, you have been overwhelmed and killed at the same time as regulation enforcement stood by employing or perhaps joined in on the melee. u . s . a . of america did no longer comprise females ... you are the weaker intercourse so which you would be able to desire to no longer vote or carry particular positions or jobs in view which you would be able to desire to no longer in all likelihood understand the entire scheme of issues. All you would be able to desire to do grow to be be a effective little housewife or maid. u . s . a . of america would not comprise the GLBT community ... you will pay taxes and die in wars (as long as you do no longer tell), yet you won't have the ability to get married or declare your loved ones member on your earnings tax, nor can they inherit your retirement funds or sources till you're making particular provisions which they are going to would desire to pay extensive taxes on - yet it particularly is high quality, by way of fact your mere existence is an abomination for the time of American historical past, there have been too many communities to call that have been persecuted, discriminated against, and ostracized. Who would be next? Will the yank human beings upward thrust up? Or do we only bypass alongside with the prestige quo and be greatful this isn't any longer us?

There's another one right there who things America is the centre of the universe. I think the media brainwashes them. They are not exposed to unbiased reporting and do not hear nor learn about things which happen outside of America. It's not necessarily their fault, it is just a result of their current society. Only Americans who choose to enlighten themselves on reality and take the time to learn about other cultures can see just how closed minded their society really is.
---
Americans tend to stay out of others affairs??? Yeah, right! Not with George Bush in there playing the world's policeman in order to persue his own agenda. He picks on Iraq where there is no firm evidence of anything, when there's North Korea flaunting nukes and Russia murdering hundreds of thousands of Chechens. Next he will go and try and destroy Cuba after Castro dies for an easy win and turn that wonderful country into mess it was 60 years ago the last time the Americans had their grubby paws in government there. Yes America has immigrants. Your all immigrants as you savages went and murdered all the natives who lived there! Yet you think you have the right to prevent all the Mexicans from coming in. Maybe the Native Americans should have done the same to you when you came 500 years ago! Maybe the Mexicans will do the same thing. Drive all the Americans onto reservations and make the US states Mexican estados!
I know who outside of the USA thinks that USA is the best. Israel! What other country in the world supports a country who 50 years ago evicted its native inhabitants of 2000 years and supports their weapons of mass destruction to keep the palestineans who used to live there out? Oh yes, that's right, the Marshall Islands. They voted with the US against the UN resolution condeming Israel, part of only 5 against the nearly 200 countries who oppose Israels actions.
Another American furthering the stereotype. What makes you think everyone else uses your medications, ideas and manufacturing processes? We don't want your drugs as you rape your own people by charging 10,000% of what they're worth. We don't want your technology or manufacturing processes as everyone knows Toyotas and Hondas will outrun and outlast a Ford or a Chevy any day. How many TV's do you know of still made in America? Sure we get American TV .. but we get our own TV too and many of us prefer to watch our own television programming. Maybe if the American society wasn't so closed minded, you would get our TV shows and news programmes and you can see what the rest of the world sees, not just your biased egocentric CNN viewpoints.

Some outside the USA also think the USA is the best country. It depends on who you are listening to. Maybe you've been reading too much of the news press and TV press. Just pray: God bless America.
