Don't go in the attic whatever you do! They will attack you as you are invading their territory, send someone else up then act surprised when they get mugged.
It is best to get them out though as they like a chew and will eat through anything. Anyone want a half eaten Christmas tree?

There are several commercial squirrel repellents. Usually in form of spray or powder. You have to spray effected areas and when squirrel leave repair entry holes. The entry holes need to be covered with the metal mesh or plate since they will eat through wood without problems.
There are also ultra sound repealing machines you install in the attic, some are battery operated some require plugging into socket. They are efficient but also harmful for other pets in house like cats and dogs. Entry must be repaired after they leave other wise they will be back!

Believe it or not, moth balls, squirrels can't stand them. Locate them in the attic around the soffits where they may be entering. As you place them the squirrels will leave. After a few days, block any entrance they may have created. Trim any tree branches near the home to eliminate access to the roof.

Go in the attic and they will leave. Then block all the possible entrances with chicken wire cut to size. You can ball it up to push it in a hole, or lay it flat and jam it into long gaps. Do not block up the roof gaps with anything solid as the ventilation is part of the design.

You can use one of the have-a-hart traps, but when you release them it has to be far from the house, because otherwise they'll just come back.
Inspect your house for any branches that overhang onto the roof. Not only is it bad for the roof, but it makes for easy passage for the squirrel to get up again.

Sometimes a couple of rubber snakes will do the trick. Once they are out of the attic fix the hole where they are entering.

gopher poisin and then go get some cherry juice from the bar ; marischino cherries put the gopher poisin into a small bowl and then add the cherry juice. it works bigtime; I used to use this in the garden ; dead animals everywhere resulted quick
