My power was out for about 36 hours and I have 3 girls ages 7, 6, and 2. We are fortunate enough to have a gas stove and I was able to keep our home heated but, I keep thinking of others (the ones that had NO source of heat) and wonder what they did or are doing to keep warm. Also... my daughters and I had a very pleasant time without the distractions of television or radio. We had a REALLY nice time. Now that the power is back on they seem to be fighting like cats and dogs. This helped me realize that technology has taken away from family. Does anyone else feel the same?

Defintitely re: technology...it's a great thing but also over used. I was without tv reception for about 4 months a couple of years ago and ended up reading voraciously during that time...reading is a better pasttime than television, but typically when I'm home the tv is on.

No tv/radio forces people to communicate...you can find out so much about someone, when the only amusement or distraction you have is each other...

We lived through the Ice Storm that hit Canada about 10 years ago. We had no heat but because we were between 2 houses it wasn`t unbearable. By the forth day we had a routine and everyone pitched in. We played cards and talked and made the most of it. I secretly enjoyed it!
