Hmmm..I really don't like this statement too much. I'd prefer to think that, when we have forgotten what we had learned, that it is our natural, human instincts and common sense that enable us to continue to function and thrive. The word "education" usually means learning things, so your statement is sort of confusing and is just trying to be a cutesy little play on words.

I don't really agree with that statement. Just because something is forgotten doesn't mean it wasn't learned. It's all still there, locked away in your brain. You have just have to find a way to release it. It can be done. All it takes is a little persistance. I'm sure you've forgotten the names of some of your first grade friends that you've lost touch with over the years, but after some serious thinking I'm sure you will come up with a few. After really thinking hard for a while you might even remember all of them. Try it.

Wow Josh you are on a deep roll, what are you smoking? Okay, "education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten, but why do you have to put it in such harsh terms"? But if you have all eduation and no common sense there are going to be problems.

Disagree with your statement. More info is needed to understand what you want to find out. If you are meaning the difference between being educated or uneducated, I would think that would be a quantitative (something you could count), but should be nearly useless if you mean how smart someone is. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'm not qualified to answer this question as it stands.

I think this is a general statement that needs more circumstance to actually make complete sense. Knowledge will be preserved and taught by those that do not forget.

The ability to educate will survive anything so as long as there is something to teach by someone to someone.

If you forget something it's probably useless information your brain purged because it wasn't beneficial to survival.

apart from it being well phrased, that quote is nonetheless absolute nonsense. having studied for over 24/23 years throughout school, college and university ( i am 25) i see education as being something where the knowledge and skills you acquire and utilise doesn't last up until you graduate from university but it lasts throughout your whole lifetime. learning isn't just confined to the inner regions of lecture theatres and during seminars and classrooms, rather it is a process of preparing you for the remainder of your life. and subjects such as philosophy and cultural studies enable us to view not just our own lives but of society and the different and variety of influences that impact upon us as individuals. in addition, the theoretical aspect of those subjects can be applied or utilised in a particular given situation, in an attempt to evaluate, question and study life and the decisions we make during our lives in general. to insist that such a notion, as when education and all knowledge and understanding we've come to attain is then to be forgotten and abandoned after we finish our education exists, is beyond ridiculous and it is a notion that ought to be challenged

I think it's a load of crap. While it's true you learn a lot from your own experiences as opposed to what people try to teach you, you're a moron if your education comes solely from experience. Education is the APPLICATION of knowledge obtained by a variety of means.
