My daughter and I were watching Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets last night on TV, and there were a TON of scenes that are not on the DVD's that we own. Where are those from? Are they on the DVD's that we buy off the shelf?

Very often, either for the sake of time or for the sake of story-telling, scenes that were filmed were edited out.

Many times, the director liked the scenes, but the movie just couldn't hold them. That is one of the advantages of (1) waiting for the DVD and (2) waiting to see the movie on TV...

You get to see ALL the scenes, because time is no longer a factor...and its assumed that if yer watching, you want to see ALL the scenes...

Its also a way to get fans of cinema (which, c'mon, is EVERY ONE) to buy the DVD even if they saw the movie in the theater...
because there are usually about 15-20 minutes of footage that are added on...

Just my Opinion...

Some DVDs are released with the directors cut (Lord of the Rings and King Kong did that), where others do not have that (No Harry Potter movie has been released as a directors cut)

The LOTR prolonged variations explains the action picture extra constructive. of direction no longer something beats the books yet no one might choose to exhibit screen 2 hours of hobbit's journey from Hobbiton to The Prancing Pony. The prolonged version is composed of added scenes no longer purely a protracted 2 minutes of using, walking or speaking. they have that too yet no longer as many as a results of fact the added scenes. as quickly as you have considered the prolonged version, you will possibly in no way choose to exhibit screen the theatrical version. Ever. I assure you which you is basically no longer dropping it sluggish.
