An interesting question for me. Would you prefer a visionary or someone who follows a sort of realpolitik? Which would be better for our country at this point in time? At any point in time? This question actually influences my choices, who I support, etc. so I think it is worth discussing. For my own interest, would you mind stating your political party as well? I want to see if a particular option runs in a given party. Explanations appreciated. Here's my viewpoint:

I would likely support a pragmatist now. That is more of what we need than an idealist. We are in a mess everywhere, and someone needs to take charge. We don't need to introduce new ideals or goals, we need to meet the ones we already have set in place. At this point, I think a pragmatist would be more effective.

I'm neither Republican nor Democrat, but conservative.

I am an independent because I am both conservative and liberal , depending on the topic. I would support some one with a pragmatic view of this country and the world. We need to gain respect back the the countries abroad. sorry to say but we need a more isolationist theory and let us get this country back working and unified before we criticize and try to change others

I am liberal, but I also agree that a we need someone with a more realistic world view-someone who can clean up the mess we have created for ourselves and who solves the problems at hand. At this point, idealistic goals are all but useless.

Since idealism is opposed to realism, to succeed, a government must be pragmatic. In pragmatism, the truth is measured by the consequences.
