Do you mean after WWII? My guess would be that on the European mainland countries like Germany were assisted by the Marshall Plan, which was an economic recovery plan used by the US to help war torn countries recover. After the First World War FRance, England and the US forced harsh economic terms on Germany, which caused serious hardship there and helped lead to the rise of Hitler and the beginning of WWII. We tried to avoid repeating that mistake by helping Germany with the Marshall plan.
