You should be happy that someone gave you a gift, let alone what it was. That someone cared enough to give you something should give you genuine happiness anyway.

It's very rude to act disappointed about a gift. No one had to give you anything, so whatever you get is an improvement on what you had.

If somebody goes out of their way to give you a gift, regardless of what it is, you should be grateful that you were in that persons thoughts. The neighbor kid once gave me a gift of a dead toad. It was in a small shoebox that the kid obviously spent a lot of time decorating. He was about 7 and it was so sweet. It came from his heart and he had no malicious intent. It was the thought and not the gift that mattered. The toad is long gone, but I still have the box.

I act happy, but try not to lie too much. I'll find somthing nice about it. Like, if it's an ugly, scratchy, heavy quilt that smells like mold, I might say "it looks warm!" know what I mean?

Well at our 25th Anniversary party, the guests came and we were opening the gifts as they brought them. One of the guests gave my husband the gift to open and I left him to it. He then had to come over and warn me not to look at it because it had a picture on it of something I have an extreme phobia of! I went over and thanked the guest for their lovely gift but was scared in case he asked me about it 'cos I hadn't seen it. I was terrified he'd take me over to it and talk about it!!! Luckily, he didn't. Phew! But if he had I know I would have screamed or ran away....how awful would that be!

I still haven't seen it two years later....just asking my husband now where it is.....he said he chucked it away....he HAD to 'cos couldn't risk me ever seeing it ha ha!

Be gracious and accept it--liking it--even if you are disappointed. That person meant well in giving it to you.
