Simplest... headphones my man! Pretend the volume is way up and you can't hear. Should they presist, listen for the length of one sentence, nod, and then turn and face front like you are done. They'll get the message.
Still they might be trying to tell you something, like you've split your sweatpants and everyone can see your Batman underroos. Just a thought.

Keep replying Uh huh to everything they say. It's a conversation killer. If they don't go to the gym often, look at them and say," My religious sect won't allow me to do that, if we do we must sacrifice 3 chickens in penance."

i was on my treadmill at home, my sister was sitting on the couch and my husband walked by me and said something to me...i went flying off the treadmill...the funniest part was ...i was trying to climb back on it cuz i had like 5 minutes to go

Yes earphone...Works wonders. It's hard to breath and talk at the same time. I hate that..

I keep the mp3 player on, and loud! That way, I just smile and nod.

just take your hand and wipe some perspiration off and fling it towards them and say WHOOPS sorry , I did not even know your were there..
smile and continue working out like they are not there...
