but you can't buy from the manufacturer directly. hes talking about buying from places that are not licensed to manufacturer or sell. just look at all the places in the web you can buy from. I get 50 junk mails a day with folks trying to sell me viagra and every other drug on the planet.

Not all drugs produced outside this country are just produced in Mexico. There are hundreds of other countries too, many produce drugs without the control of the FDA or the extended research required by the USA, Canada, or the European nations. The US probably has the most extensive system for testing new drugs in the world. That's why many drugs are available in Canada, Europe, or Mexico that cannot be legally purchased here.
However, when you start accepting drugs produced in the far east or other Asian areas, there may not be any quality control or consistant production methods and no testing procedures.
Lighten up, has everything you've ever said in you life been the truth. Did the President specify any particular country? Where were you when Clinton was in office? He didn't lie.

The FDA does not directly ensure the safety and efficacy of foreign, non imported by manufacturors drugs. Some countries regulations are very lenient. Drugs which are imported by their manufacturors have to be approved by the FDA. In some areas of the world, counterfeits are more the norm than real drugs. Foreign online pharmacies drugs are 80% counterfeit, and 25% of domestic online pharmacies drugs are counterfeit.
One foreign drug manufacturor was discovered to be using anti-freeze in their medications.
This is just an issue of liability. There are many completely safe foreign drugs, but just as many are not safe. It is currently legal if the secretary of HHS says so, to import foreign drugs. That has never been done because of safety issues. They don't want to take the risk.
Drug companies charge Americans more for their prescriptions because in short, they can. Most of them charge in relation to how much a country can pay. Also, most countries have socialized medicine, and that does impact the amount pharma charges.

Well, of course Bush was lying. He does it all the time. It is to protect drug companies profit margins. And all rich who have investments in those companies, to protect thier interests. They want to make it so that only the richest can afford those drugs.
If the poor (which includes many innocent children, seniors, disabled, even veterans) cannot afford those drugs, then they are denied the care that they need, eventually, they will be eliminated. And the government does not have to be responsible for them. Their responsibility is diminished by ending programs to protect them. The poor will never be extinct however, as much as the rich wish to believe. The criteria for determining "poor" will change. Those that are considered in the middle ground will be pushed to the bottom.

What this means is other countries don't have the same strict standards out federal food and drug administration does. We simply can't be sure they are safe. Some drugs would be 100% safe and some are not. It's just a crap shoot. That's not to say I have not bought meds while in Mexico, and will again.

Yes, it does. I don't know why he expects people to pay twice as much for medicine here when you can get the same thing much cheaper in Canada and Mexico.
