I suppose you mean that the hard drive is to be formated and the operating system re Installed.First you need you a Win XP bootable CD,and make sure that in the bios setup you CD ROM drive is configured to be the first boot device.Put the CD in the CD ROM drive an restart your Laptop.At a certain loading point you'll be prompted to press any key to boot from CD.Just press any key and follow the procedure.But remember you'll loose all the data in that drive.

The answer to your question is to change the boot priority in the bios so that the cd rom is the 1st boot drive then you can run windows setup and it will ask if you want to format the partition on c: before install.

use the system recovery disk or your original windows XP cd. you will need to bot from the CD for it to format properly and completely.

Go to http://www.windowsreinstall.com/#vista_xp_2000 - all the necessary information you will ever need is there and I've used this many times successfully myself.

Wat do u meant by Reformat , is it Reinstall XP or just formatting Harddrives ?
