Falling asleep can be cultivated over a period of time, if you practice regularly. First, try to keep disturbing thoughts and problems out of your mind. If you know the yoga posture of shavasana (corpse pose) - you can get details of this from the internet - then lie down in that pose, try relaxing your muscles from the feet up and towards your head, slowly, and keep your attention on your breathing (not on other thoughts). You would fall asleep soon enough, if you practice regularly. It is not as difficult as it sounds.
Also, wear light and comfortable clothes, with the ambient temperature in your bedroom that is relaxing. Turn of all lights, keep out TV and other sounds, and dont drink alcohol, tea or coffee or other stimulting drinks for at least 2 hours before bedtime.
If you wish, you can also get more details from the internet search engines on 'yoganidra'.
