Because your favorite program got accidentally corrupted, you cant find the install disk, your data is still there, and Linux has something that can read your data. Other that that, Linux is of no use to anyone.
Its fun to play with.
For getting my work done, I use windows 98se. And DOS now and then.

One word Security. However it is not as easy to use as windows. So you will have quite of bit of learning to do.
