I have lived in the States all of my life but I no longer feel that this is really the land of the free. If we were truely free why would we have a government to make laws and tell us what we can and can't do?

No we are not free. Not when the laws are written to protect special interest groups above the common, ordinary, law-abiding citizens of the USA!
The majority of rules and regulations protect large corporations more than the citizen. If those corporations are not held accountable to their responsibilities and rules that apply to us and not them. They are essentially allowed to operate above the law, and become more likely to overstep their boundaries.
In order for this society to work properly the power should be returned to its citizens, not make them less powerful.
Anarchy is not the solution. We would be less free than we are today.

They tell us things to protect others and ourselves, not to keep us from being free. Can you choose your job? Your groceries? Your husband or wife? Your clothes? Your religion? Vote for your leaders? Can you say "the US sucks"? (just a question, I don't think it does, by the way) YOU CAN. This is what makes us free. Do you remember the joy of the East Germans when the Berlin Wall was knocked down? I do. Just think of what it would be like if our government wasn't in place. Anyone could kill anyone else, drunk drivers would go unpunished, someone like Hitler or Castro could come in and make a government since there wasn't one. What laws do we have that keep us from being free? And remember....your question proves our freedom. A lot of people in other countries can't ask such questions because they will be put in prison or killed, but our constitution gives you the freedom of speech.

Well, the government is built by all of us. We don't agree on much-that's why the laws are such a mess. Then there is a perception about what our freedom should be. How free do you want to be? How far will you go for it? Whenever I don't think I'm free, I remember that the blood and families of many people before me are responsible for the few freedoms I have.

We have not had any real freedom in this country for the past 30 years. There is no way a person can re invent themselves and have a second chance if they make tragic mistakes in earlier years. We have no privacy to speak of or anonymity either and I only see this getting progressively worse. Its kind of like living in an Orwell-LITE society as it is. Granted this, I think given the bell shaped curve, there are sociopaths and scam artists for whom laws are written. Where a cost is known to occur that results in loss of property , reputation, or life as Thomas Hobbs felt, laws are necessary for society to function.

It is for protection. For example, if we did not have laws against murder, everyone would be free to kill who they want. This is anarchyand chaos. Laws protect people. If you work, laws force the employer to pay you. If a person embezzles from his or her company, the law will persecute that person. Laws telling you what you can and can not do make the US safer. We are free. We can pick out religion, our lifestyle, our friends, our spouses. We can eat what we want, we can drive what we want, we can live where we want. Ma'am I would say we have it pretty god here in the US of A. But I understand your question.

by all your life.. does that mean what 16 years??? Yes the US is the land of the Free... when you start listening in American History you will see that...- What you are speaking of is a Direct Democracy and that causes Anarchy.. we live in a Republic... if you want to live in Anarchy go find somewhere else to live in two years.. because I like our Republic - I'm sorry I love my fellow Americans but I don't trust them all to make our laws for me....

well i guess the US is better than a lot of other countries. But, just lik ea lot of other countries, our govt is corrupt. not as much as other...but it still is.

it's hard for people who arent Christan here. everything seems to revolve around christianity.
but, thats not so much the govt....thats more of the people and the govt following what they want.

i think the US is better than a lot of countries...but we have A LOT of room for improvment.
