Law, unlike other rules, has consequences that are handed down by state, local, and federal governments. You could have a rule at work that you could break that could get you fired, and that would be the end of it, but if you break a law and are prosecuted, your punishment will come from the government. If you attempt to avoid the punishment (don't pay a ticket, skip bail, etc) there would be further consequences
