Nope, it's a lot better than letting you run around to chew electrical wires, get lost, or get attacked by other pets in the household. You need exercise that you just can't get in your cage, and it's good for you to see new scenery. As long as you aren't in there all day, no one kicks you around, you aren't near the top of any stairs, and no other household pets are staring at you, you'll be fine.
You have pretty good typing skills for a hamster :)

unsure but if you're used to it.. it may be the safest way to travel.. the ball has a dampening plastic and if the ball is sturdy enough and big enough you can't get stuck under the fridge and if you fall down the steps the ball should absorb the shock of the bouncing...
the ball is a safety measure. keeps you from getting through areas that are off limits... stuck in places... tromped on... it also makes sounds so your owner can figure out where you've gone to... helps you keep from getting crushed between places just in case you feel nosey.. so on... the ball is a great device to protect you and others from harm.
most times if the ball is well made.. yes you'll have a great time and make sure you don't poop up the insides.. because then the poop will flip around along with you and you'll get all dirty and icky and make your owner mad.
but ... over all.. enjoy!
have a BALL!

No its safer for you to run around the house in a ball. Your owners can find you and it keeps you safe from anything falling on you and squashing you. It will also keep you out of those harmful plants that you might be temped to eat. Its like keeping a baby safe from open electrical plugs and other dangers thing, by putting a plug cap over and electrical plug or having a baby gate in an area where the baby is not wanted.

I think they should put you outside and let you roam the streets. That would be fun with all of the cars and dogs. Maybe some kids will use you for a soccer ball.

Your brain is the size of a marble. You have no grasp of the concept of "cruel". That being said, nobody should treat you badly. Putting you in a ball and letting you run around the house isn't treating you badly, it's actually quite fun for most hamsters.

Acualy, hamsters find it quite entertaining =) It is to make sure the hamster does not get lose and run away, but still is able to run in a big area. It is much better than running on a wheel all day too.

no. its better to let you roam free but that isn't always possible for your safety. better a running ball than in the cage all day with no exercise/play

Just hope that your owner doesn't let you *casually roll* down the stairs, if you have any! It depends on whether you like the ball or not. If the owner is trying to put you in and you squirm back, your owner should know that you don't want to go in. ;)

No. It's much kinder than keeping you cooped up in a cage that won't let you get a view of everything that's going on. Be careful that you don't get too near the top of the stairs.
