No providing they are carrying out police duty. There is an exemption in the Road Traffic Act to allow for police and other emergency services to carry out their duty.

In view of recent events that have appeared in the papers, it seems impossible for the police themselves to be prosecuted for speeding. So one can only conclude that they can do whatever they like!

It's not illegal but it is considered dangerous as traffic in the outside lane travels faster and if an accident occurs it could easily be hit. There is an example of this on this site amongst others!!

well they seem to be able to park on double yellow lines, that no-one else can park on so why not ?
