Hi, ok, did you set the pin on the back of the DVD-rw? Did you leave the cd-rw in the PC plus installed the CD-RW ? ok, if your using only the DVD-RW, there is a small plastic casing that came with your DVD-rw. Look at your paper work and it will show you on which "pin's" to place the plastic casing over to make it the "master" meaning it is the main DVD-rw you are using. If you are using the DVD-rw and also the CD-rw, you will need to set the small plastic casing on the DVD-rw to "master with slave" and set the plastic casing on the CD-rw to "slave". Also, download and use http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086-10407614.html?part=dl-AdvancedW&subj=uo&tag=button. This is a great free program and will fix most all your problems on your PC. Good luck. Mikie.

Hi!

Maybe you did it all wrong. Shut down. Remove CD-RW unit. Instead of it, install the DVD unit! Now, enter BIOS (Setup), most likely by pressing Del. Enter the Standard Settings (left panel, first menu item). Now, check to see if your DVD-RW shows up correctly. If so, OK. Now, press Esc to return to main menu. And save BIOS settings.

I presume that you are using standard IDE/EIDE ATA UDMA drives. If you are using other drives please refer to the manufacturer for instructions.

Win may be slow, that's why you should consider reinstalling it. Also, some drivers may be required. WinASPI is an important issue to consider when problems arise with ASPI compliant devices, such as DVD and CD drives.

Good luck!

did you install this yourself ?

did you replace the cdrw or did you put it in as well as the cdrw.

there are lots of questions to ask here so please give as much detail as you can about what you did.

normally there are two ide connectors in a pc one will have the hard disc on it and the second will have the cdrw.

occasionally to save 15p for a second ide you may find that you have one cable daisy chaining both devices.

my guess would be that this was your case and quite possibly you have connected the cable incorrectly making the dvdrw drive the primary master and connected the hard disc as a slave to it.

like i said be very specific about what you did and how you did it and im sure we can get to the bottom of this.

Well, you might need to set the master/slave jumpers. Look at the back of the drive there you should see a small piece of removable plastic to connect pins. There should also be a description for the single positions of the jumper. Ensure that the setting of the jumper is the same as that of the drive you replaced it for. Only one master per IDE cable is accepted.
