Well, mainly the president has to sign bills into law so he has to agree with the legislation, too.

(1) By proposing legislation.
In particular, the President of the United States will give some support to this due to a clause in the Constitution requiring him/her to report on "...the state of the Union..." to Congress. So, every January, the President makes an address (speech) to a Joint Session of Congress (with the Justices of the Supreme Court attending) indicating their proposed legislation/programs. At other times throughout the year, the Executive Branch can propose programs either to Congress directly, or by presenting it publicly to the American people - getting them to influence Congress.

(2) By consulting with Congress.
During Committee meetings held in Congress on legislation, the Executive Branch can provide information/experts to Congress to assist in their deliberations. The President can request members of Congress to visit him/her in the Oval Office to discuss mutual concerns on legislation.

(3) By the use of Presidential Veto.
The President can turn down legislation (and, in the process, indicate any objections) that is, in their opinion, not suitable. Congress CAN, of course, override the Presidential Veto IF 2/3 of both houses agree...which doesn't happen that often.

The President gas the power of veto. If Congress has passed a bill that the President thinks would not be beneficial to society, he can turn it down. Congress can overturn that veto with a 2/3 vote though. The President is also an agenda setter. He can urge his party to focus on particular issues. The President can also apply social pressure to Congrees to pass a bill.
