I want a small animal because my gerbil died. I don't want a fish, don't want another gerbil, and it can't be bigger than a bunny. I am responsible and I will buy the animal at a no kill shelter.

bird,guinea pig,chinchilla,lionhead bunny(have a mane),lizard,snake,spider,chemleon,hedgehog,mouse,hamster, degus,turtle.

I would go for a bunny, I mean it can't be bigger than one right? So just get one, I got one not too long ago and at first i wasn't sure if I should keep him, but then I started loving him more and more. Maybe you might too.

Guinea Pig or bunny
hamsters are nocturnal so dont make great pets...
but GP or bunny will need bigger cage

See if there is a chinchilla. They are about they size of bunnies, and are super soft. And hey, a chihuhua is smaller than a bunny...(at least all my bunnies!)

Personally, I enjoy birds. A parakeet is a good pet to have. They are small, easy to care for, and you can teach them to talk and to sit on your finger. They also come in a variety of colors and are really cute.
