Right now, I would go for the Ipod. They're well established and can play music in more different formats, I think. They also have proven their worth, and you would not be risking anything by buying one. However, I would also look into other smaller name players. creative zen makes good players as I understand it, and if you have a PDA a few SD cards could easily do the job, depending on how much different music you need.

Both play the same formats, except the Ipod will not play wma, and the Zune of course will. The Zune also includes a FM radio, while the Ipod does not. However the Ipod has a lot more accessories readily available at this point, so if you want an easy time buying docking boom boxes, cases, skins, and other such gadgets the Ipod is the way to go.
That being said I own a Creative Labs Zen Vision:M. It plays more formats, and has the radio and a voice recorder. I like the video picture over both the Zune demos I've seen and my brothers Ipod. Not to mention the controls are a bit easier for me. The Vision is a bit thicker then the Ipod, but the same size as the Zune.

I personally like the iPod Video better than the Zune in every way. Take a look at this link. It will tell you about which is better. Before you even bother reading this though, if you have a Mac, the Zune will not work on it. If you have a PC, it will work on it and I really suggest you to take a look at this site.

i in my opinion like ipods, that are purely a undeniable variety of mp3 gamers, because of the fact it has maximum of upload-ons, may well be used as a conveyable difficult tension, and can be used in the two homestead windows and mac codecs you may get an 8 GB iPod nano for $2 hundred and which could carry a lot of music and play video.
