If you are old enough, you may be aware of 2 children policy introduced by former PM (current SM Lee) 20 years ago. However, today the Government found that the birth rate is too low for the ageing population. If this go on, the younger generation will have a heavier burden to take care of the elderly. Thus, the Government are trying to rectify the mistake made by SM Lee 20 years ago, by encourage more foreigners to migrate to Singapore.

The approximately 700,000 foreigners are under employment passes or work permits. The Singapore Govt. opened up the labor market letting in experienced foreigners to take up employment
in order to improve Singapore's competitiveness in the global market.

that's cause singapore really welcomes foreign talent in all forms. many scholarships for students and all. this really helps our economy by creating jobs and increasing productivity. since many say singaporeans are more rigid, they invite more creative people from the west and all. of course, this has been an issue for us. some say it's stealing away our own people's jobs while some say it ultimately benefits us. well, i kinda think it does to a certain extent. but i never knew it was a quarter of our ppl! but it does show how lovely singapore is to live in doesn't it?

if you include foreign workers skilled and unskilled, professional and non-professional, yeah... many foreigners here? To work and/or earn a living.
