Is there any diveristy in Boise? I checked the census records and it claims that 10 years ago Idaho was only .08 % black. Could this be accurate?
My fiance and I are in a long-distance interracial relationship. He is in Boise and I am in Indianapolis. I'd move, but I'm afraid of my children and I being shunned because of race.

I guess I should say that our plan is for him to move here, but I love the idea of open spaces and mountains. Those things are disappearing here.

Unfortunately, I would have to advise you against making the move to Boise/Idaho. I would love to say, you won't experience any problems and all will be well, however, the chances are good that you and your children would experience some difficulties there. The only way to truly decide though is to go visit for a few weeks and check things out for yourself. Maybe it's not so bad....

As of 2000 census, Boise was over 92% white, with a black population of less than 1%(.77). Hispanics made up 4.5%, Asian 2%, and Native American .7%. Idaho, Montana and Wyoming are also the noted home base of a number of white supremist groups, though these are generally in the outlying rural areas.

Perhaps you and your fiance could consider relocating to a totally new area. There are lots of areas with wide open spaces that are more culturally diverse, and more importantly, more accepting of cultural and racial differences. Consider Oregon, Washington or do research on other states.

Best of luck to you, and congrats on the relationship.

There is not a lot of BLACK people in Boise, however their is a high tolerance/acceptance of them and there is a lot of religious and cultural diversity including basque, islamic, greek, and Russian. The rest of idaho is not as liberal or tolerant as Boise, i would not be worried
