The current government is mostly Shiite as it truly represents the Iraqi population. The leader of Iraq is a moderate Shiite as opposed to the extremist Shiite leadership in Iran. The Shiite extremist are attempting to rule as Saddam did whom by the way was a Sunni from the tribal village of Tikrit. We all know how he ruled. The Iranian backed Shiite extremist militia run by Al-Sadir is attempting to gain power for the benefit of Iran. When we aren't in a place to be held accountable for our actions the Iraqi military will level the extremist Shiite militia with massive innocent lives lost in the process. GWB and Co. just can't come out and say this is the eventual plan for they would be looked upon as butcher's. The Sunni's are now struggling to survive and hold onto what power they can. The Iraqi president is a Moderate and can work with the Shiite extremists. If the Al-Sadir militia doesn't wish to comply they will be iradicated. This may prompt Iran to deploy massive troops to the Iraqi border thus threatening a wider war. Hence we will return to Iraq regardless of when we leave. While we are there Iran won't dare provoke us. I know it's outside of the box theorizing here but it is the ONLY way to speculate what is really going on behind the scenes. Especially with the Iranian president meeting with all the heads of state that he has in recent days.

Iraq is a strange mixture of majority Shia with minority Sunni and Kurd population.By nature Muslims are peaceful. However if there is any issue challenging their honor they are the worst lot to deal with. They know no compromise. They will fight to death in the name of honor or religion. This is their psyche which US misread. As long as Us presence exists on Iraqi soil these gorilla attacks will continue. The picture is very grim even after Us exits the scene. It is well known that Shias are supported by Iran while Sunni minority has the backing of Saudis. Kurds have their own ambitions of a greater Kurdistan integrating lands from many surrounding nations [Iran included] which sizable Kurds inhabit.
The situation is hopeless to put it mildly. Only God or may be Allah will help Iraq which was once shining in resplendent glory in the 10 to 12 th century when Islam ruled many lands.

Yes. Iraq WILL fall into civil war - guaranteed. It's just a matter of when: 5 months from now; 5 years from now, it will happen.
I say we pull out now, let them have their civil war and be done with it that much earlier. If we stay and prolong the start of the civil war the people of Iraq will just have to suffer in the rubble that much longer.
Barbaric and cold? Yes. Any other way? No, they will have their war no matter what we do. And after it is all over (hold your breath on that happening) we are obligated to go in and clean it up. Again.
The U.S. invading Iraq is like giving birth to a severely retarded child; we will never be able to release it into society and have it take care of itself.

Well for starters, these people have been killing each others for thousands of years. For us to come in and try and stop it, it's not working. Both sides need to find some common ground and build on it. I see this way we leave now that place will be at war for a long time. But you have to look at this to, the Shites have control now, before that it was the Sunnis. both want power and both won't be under the other.

Wrong you are Ken . It hasn't been 3 years since the current democratically elected government took office .
And even 3 years is really dreaming for a new government to be in full control.
We're pushing them pretty hard now... . .. . let's see what they DO .

I don't think we need to leave the region while Iran is flexing its muscle. And Russia is arming Iran.
Why bring the troops home, wait to get attacked, and then go back?
Let's try to finish it.

In this United States it took 13 years to get everyone to agree to the Constitution, why do you expect other countries to instantly adapt?
