Oil turns to soap in the presence of an Alkali (Baking Soda, Lye, etc.) To clean the oil off of the pan, take a 1/4 cup of baking soda and mix it with water until you have a cohesive paste, about the consistency of tooth paste. Spread this onto the oil spots and let it sit for 2 -3 hours, spritz it with water every 15-30 minutes to keep it moist. After 2-3 hours use a wet sponge to scrub the bottom of the pan. The baking soda will have loosened some of the oil and will act as a mild abrasive. If this doesn't get enough off, you can try mixing up a weak solution of lye (generic powdered drain cleaner) and apply that to the pan. It will work faster, but it is dangerous. Whatever you do if you decide to use the lye, WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES & THICK RUBBER GLOVES! Also keep a bottle of vinegar nearby to neutralize on lye that splashes onto your skin. A strong solution of lye can dissolve your skin quickly, so you want to take precautions to prevent that from happening.

Try using straight salt in the pan and letting it soak with a couple tblsp of water enough for it to make a paste. Then use the salt as an abrasive scrub.Salt works wonders on burned pans and in your oven after a bad spill
