What is said above it true (concentrated nitric will dissolve steel but not gold). Aqua regia, btw, is a combination of HCl and HNO3, not H2SO4 and HNO3.
Very important to note though: any time you do this with nitric acid you will notice the formation of a brown gas. As you notice this forming say your prayers, because that gas is nitrogen tetroxide and you are about to die. This gas forms in huge amounts very fast, and is ridiculously toxic. If your question was from a theoretical viewpoint, the answers you've been given are correct. From a practical viewpoint, I cannot recommend enough that you do not do this. Real chemists don't like doing this kind of crap because it is very dangeorous.

Gold is one of the most unreactive metals and should not dissolve in any acid. Steel will dissolve in any strong concentrated acid like nitric acid but be careful it can cause severe damage to the skin and eyes and a toxic gas is given off.

Separately, concentrated nitric acid or concentrated hydrochloric acid will dissolve steel but not gold.
However, a freshly mixed combination of the two acids WILL dissolve gold, and is known as aqua regia.

Danger, Danger, Danger
Extreme caution should be used when reclaiming gold and silver. Toxic gases will penetrate the dwelling causing death to your family, especially if done in the basement. The structure must be destroyed and toxic cleanup will be a must. Several News stories have been done on this topic, usually after everyone in the house was found dead. I realize this sounds like a good idea on how to make money, but research research it thoroughly, especially the hazards. I strongly advise you not to go through with this project.

Yes, steel could be effected by nitric acid(HNO3) or concentrated hydrochloric (HCl) acid. Both acids are safe on gold.
