The words "holy war" are incompatible with Islamic teachings. The arabic word jihad is often mistranslated into holy war. Jihad means "to struggle against evil for the sake of God" It starts with your own soul (jihad ul nufz) or struggle of the soul. Jihad could also be a war against evil, oppression, slavery, etc. If there is an evil presence that threatens Muslims, we are obliged to fight until they are defeated or they surrender. At that point, we must not raise our arms against them and provide them a safe return to their home. Islam, in NO WAY, condones aggression, only protection and defense. BTW, very seldom have Muslims STARTED a war. Usually what I see is only the Muslim attacks making the headlines when if you dig into the story a little bit, it is fighting back against aggression. This is permitted. However, at NO TIME, and under NO CIRCUMSTANCE is a Muslim permitted to harm non combatants, women, children, elderly or handicap. These are strict rules in the Qur'an and obviously, these suicide bombers just want to kill people. This is NOT Islam but the lack thereof because if they followed the teachings of Islam, every innocent person's life would be forbidden to them and it is according to the Qur'an and the sunnah (example of prophet Muhammad) Allah says in the Qur'an "fight those who fight you until oppression is no more" He also says if they lay down there arms and seek forgiveness to have mercy on them and free them or keep them as POWs while teaching them Islam and allowing them the SAME rights you have. Islam is perfect and all the negative media is one sided. Sure, there are bad Muslims out there but they do not get their evil from Islam. It is their own souls that refuse the peace of Islam. When you say Muslims have killed more people I ask than who have they killed more people? Christian nations bomb Muslims as we speak, killing hundreds of thousands in Iraq and millions over the past decade because of sanctions and depleted uranium. Who kills who and who starts what? Jews expel Arabs from their homes and kill their families in Palestine and when the Muslims fight back, they are terrorists? I would be happy to provide you with information on Islam but first you have to learn to question things around you and not just accept what the news man says or what you hear. Proof is a must in Islam. Blind following of ANY kind is forbidden. May Allah guide you. I hope you find the true Light of Islam. And no, Muslims are NOT taught to achieve global domination. Allah says in the Qur'an "There is no compulsion in religion" and only permits fighting when absolutely necessary to stop an evil or in defense. Some people should really have a clue before they post. Islam teaches us to respect the people of the Book (Christians and Jews) and treat them as our own. Ignorant people need not reply.

Jihad (to strive and struggle in the way of God) in Islam is of two parts. The most popular and misconstrued concept is the "lesser struggle" or to struggle in defence of Islam, commonly known as the holy war. The "greater struggle" is the struggle within the self - to lead a good Muslim life, to spread the message of Islam, to be a good spouse, etc. (very much like following the 10 commandments, etc.)
The thing is within every religion there will be different interpretations, thus you have the likes of your suicide bombers who believe that they are practicing the lesser struggle. Even Christianity has different sects and denominations (orthodox, protestant, born again, etc.) and these differences in opinions have often times led to religious wars. Take the Christian Crusades as a good example. This one was SANCTIONED by the Pope in the name of Christianity. Its goal? to recapture jerusalem from muslims. crusades were also referred to campaigns launched against pagans and heretics. Where's the religious freedom in that? Muslims were not the only ones who killed for their faith. Some people are even worst, killing for money, or pleasure. Some people are also just sensationalizing terrorism without knowing the truth behind events like 9/11. Watch fahrenheit 9/11 for another point of view about this matter. Some people are also of the opinion that if you don't fight for your faith, then it's a dead faith.

Modern Muslims claim that the Quran teaches freedom of religion and advocates only defensive warfare, but can such expressions as “kill those that join other gods to God wherever you find them,” “but if they convert . . . let them go their way,” and “kill them . . . until the temptation stops” be construed as either defensive warfare or permitting freedom of religion? The very Arabic word jihad disproves such a contention, for it means, “A religious war against infidels or Mohammedan heretics.” (Webster) Many, many Muslims were slain by other Muslims because of religious differences. Certainly that does not spell out freedom of religion.
In the light of the record made by history, nothing could be more fantastic than to claim that Islam believes only in defensive warfare. The facts show that after Muhammad gained power in Medina he organized marauding bands to attack the caravans of rival cities and that the first three were wholly unsuccessful. After he became a power in Medina, to which city he had fled as a religious refugee from Mecca, he authorized the execution of his critics; most notorious example being his execution of the Jewish tribe of Koraiza, some 700 men being beheaded in the market place from morning until night. True, these Jews had disaffected, but the religious motive is seen in that they were offered full pardon if they would give up their Judaism for Islam. Not one of them accepted this offer, although their failing to do so meant not only death for themselves but the selling of their wives and little ones into slavery.

Muslims are taught that they should seek to achieve global domination, and do so in any way they think will work. This includes peaceful persuasion, threats of violence, and violence itself. "Holy War" is the murder of all who oppose islam, and muslims are fooled into thinking they are doing God's will when they murder Innocent people. Muslims are even taught to lie if they think lying will help spread islam. They are lying when they say islam is peaceful.

You're a little off. Muslims extremists set off bombs and kill people and the Western media call it a holy war, not Muslims.

A holy war means shoving your beliefs down the throats of anybody who doesn't believe in them, but instead of using words to accomplish the feat, they use guns and bombs.

In English language, holy wars are referred to Crusades initiated by European Christians against Asian Muslims and Christians. Constantinople(Istanbul in Turkey) was a stronghold of Orthodox Christians, in a Christian country then; but it was destroyed, ransacked, local Christians brutally killed; for just one fault: not accepting the Pope in Vatican as their spiritual leader. That was a holy War. War is different to battle. Battle is different to skirmishes and the localised individual actions.
, ransacked

the notion that most suicide bombers are muslim is false, and totally originated by Bush Govt., if you want to know the truth, read: " dying to win" book by Robert Pape. It has details of evey suicide bomber ever, and it gives you a clear and a different picture than Bush, and HE is not muslim, so HE is not on a religious, or political propaganda mission.
