Well, ma'am, as surprising as it may seem, a lot of things would need to pass the "halaal" test, before they may be used by Muslims, in general.

Would you believe that most toothpastes are considered "haraam" or sinful?

Again, most of the items of make-up would also be "haraam".

However, Muslim men and women, traditionaly, use kohl to line their eyes and they have some traditional make-up items that are permitted. There is a controversy over body ornamentation which is considered proper by some Middle eastern tribes, while others denounce it.

Strangely, though the women need to wear the veil and gown called the burqa, most Muslim women in the Middle East are known to buy a lot of Western make-up without bothering about the "halaal" or "haraam" qestion!?

Hope this helped.

Have a nice day.

Most of the cultures (actually, sub-cultures) that I've seen that prohibit makeup are in the USA!

Many "middle-eastern" women to wear makeup. The problem comes in when they wear it in public w/o the burka. Early in the Iranian Islamic revolution there were stories about women who wore makeup in public, but I think that has moderated to a great extent.

I know that orthodox communities and castes in middle east do not appreciate women dressing up or wearing make up but i dont know of any that dont 'allow'. I know and have seen a lot of middle eastern women wearing make up and they like it a lot.

Zack is totally wrong ! Totally lustfull ? It's impolite...
Yes, women are allowed to wear make-ups but those are only during them in prayers or for their husband.
For conservative ones, women are strictly not allowed to wear 'em but most Muslims do allow that as long as they're not putting them to show off themselves...
They need to wear prope attire & makeups which make 'em down to earth not walk around in boastful

Most islamic countries frown upon anything that personally favours their women.
Their women are oppressed by backward thinking jealous males.
Islam is an evil repressive religion(is that politically correct enough?)
Personally i think its a shame,I saw female PLO lawyer diana bhuttu the other night (bbc newsnight "what chance peace" show) and although she was talking some pro palestinian shi.t, she was really fit for her age.
Its a dilemna for the left really, on one hand they support every ethnic minority going , and on the other they are feminists. So just how does the left figure this one out?
Well in my experience i feel as though they are in denial about the female oppression issue because they ethnic minority support carries more kudos.

yes I have seen a documentary that they have beaty salons in Egypt to have their hair done and the makeup adviced, however, I do not know about the opposite. Maybe in Iran with the extreme muslems they may forbid it. I am not sure

Mormons frown upon use of make up. It depends on your sect if it is to be a strict no no.. Women self impose this as they try to conform to the required plain appearance. It is weird to see them do this to themselves.
