It could be a number of reasons, it could be fleas though outside in the cold now shouldn't be such a problem, mites or lice or something similar, you should get it looked over at the vets.

maybe it is bored? Put some treats in a ball that it will have to roll around to get them to fall out, the same as you get for dogs. or a fruity wooden chew toy, both from pet store.

Maybe it is stressed/frightened? perhaps a fox has tried to get at it. try to make the area it lives in more secure if poss.

If a rabbit has babies they pull the really soft fluff to line the nest from their chest or underside not the back. so i don't think that is the problem.

There could be a number of reasons why this is happening, Your rabbit could have an infection, fleas, be pregnant or be stressed. Check for fleas or signs of skin irritation. If the rabbit is male or hasn't come incontact with other rabbits, then your rabbit could be stressed. Another reason could be if it is living with another rabbit or guinea pig, they tend to pull on each others fur so this could also be a factor. Your best bet would be to take it to the vet.

Try to watch the rabbit and see if its chewing its hair, if so, then its chewing it and pulling it out because its bored,, also need to check for fleas, behind the neck and check for mange by checking the skin by simply parting the fur and looking, if appears sore, red, dry,, take to vet.. also, will be getting winter coat now in full force, if this is the case, try to help with grooming if you can

Check your rabbit for fleas-Our rabbit died because of them and he was loosing his hair too. Sometimes the treatment is just as bad as the fleas, so take him to the vet so they can choose the proper treatment for your rabbit.

in the fall a rabbit blows it's coat off (not completely bald, of course, but very short) It's body sheds off the old coat to make room for the winter coat so he is nice and toasty in the cold winter months. don't worry if this sounds like your rabbit, mine blows his coat every fall, and it always manages to come back just in time. But if he is actually going completely bald, like you can see big patches of skin, take the poor thing to the vet, and get a cage for inside until his coat grows back.

Some long hair breeds, like angoras can have bald patches when they shed. Might be mites. Best to take your bun to the vet for a check up.

If the seams to your rabbit are loose no wonder it's fur's going!

Do you mean "seems to be losing......"?
