In all of the years we have had small critters, we have kept ceder chips in their cage, changing the cage every week and it seems to help the smell.
You can get a large bag at the feed store for about $10.
Hope this helps.

You are not cleaning the cage enough. A hamster should never smell if the cage is kept cleaned.
If in a 10 gallon aquarium or larger clean minimum once a week.
Those tiny hamster cages should be cleaned every 2 days.

Sounds like you need to be cleaning the cage more frequently. Hamsters pee whenever they want, and most bedding is pretty absorbent, so if you aren't changing the bedding often enough, your hamster is living in pee soaked bedding, he will be covered w/pee and smell like it all the time. Use plenty of good bedding and change it all frequently, and the hamster and the cage will smell better. Good Luck!!

Remove soiled & wet bedding everyday. Remove & change food everyday. Provide fresh water daily. Also change bedding that gets wet from the water bottle/dish that is leaking. Thoroughly clean the cage 1-2 times/ week.

in the experience that your hamster is healthful then sturdy sparkling as quickly as a week could preclude any reliable oders. inspite of the undeniable fact that we had a hamster that gave the look to be doing properly yet i observed her cage had a urine scent that persisted to get extra advantageous and extra advantageous no remember how plenty we wiped sparkling it. Unfortunatly i did no longer understand that indicated a kidney an infection till it replaced into to late and she or he grew to develop into very ill and died. So in case you observe the scent of urine is overwhelming then you definately could evaluate having it checked on the vet for a kidney an infection. sturdy success to you

yes your hamster stinks because the cage is dirty. it is not healthy for him to live in his own waste, either so clean him often.
