Colin is correct, from the San Francisco Seals. It was with this team in 1933 that he hit in 61 consecutive games.The following year, he played shortstop and injured his knee. It was through the great advice of Yankee scout Bill Essick to GM Ed Barrow not to back off because of the knee. In 1936 he drove cross country to become a member of NY Yankees, and the rest is history.

Actually the question was from which league. It was the Pacific Coast League.
