Guys like toys and tools. Depends on what you want to spend too.
A nice tool for around $75 is a leatherman (they're like an overgrown swiss army knife). It's one of those things that he might not have, and even if he does it's nice to have an extra one to put in the car, tackle box, snowmobile...etc. A cordless drill is nice if they don't have one, just make sure you get on that is heavy duty enough that it's useful - like an 18 Volt. Black and Decker makes some reasonably priced ones that are fine for home use.
Toys depend on what he's into. Music, electronics, sports.

My lovely wee wife asks me the same question all the time, and my answer to her is, as long as I waken up every morning, and she is there beside me, I couldn't live without her, she is the biggest christmas present I would ever want. God forbid, if she died before me, I would end my life, she is my life, my love, my all. I worship her and adore her, she saved my life in 1994 when I had a brain haemorrhage and my doctor sent the ambulance away telling them I was fine and only had a chest infection.

It depends on his interest.
If he loves new software, give him a homemade card with a voucher for the software of his choice (but with a price of less than say USD 200.)
If he loves gaming on the computer, get him an online game.
If he loves sport, get him a signed jersey from his favourite team.
If he loves music, get him an ipod or ipod speakers.
I'm sure that he will appreciate it more if it is something that he enjoys...

Get him a "Once in a lifetime" gift box. It's original - & it's a change from the boring old pants, socks, ties, etc. These days out include car racing, hot air ballooning & meet & greet a celeb.

Anything whch ties in with an interest he has, books, DVD's, CD's, Clothes but please get us anything but socks! Socks are easy to get anytime and cheap and we have to buy them a lot because they have a short life. Such a necessary item in a man's wardrobe but possible the most boring, next to ties!
