what are the "scope of work" and "mannerism" for a tour guide or escort?

I worked as a guide in Greece for a short period of time and I thought that was tough. Recently we werw on a trip and we had a Japanese guide, she was awesome. She talked without stopping wile we were on the bus and she stood up all the way.
Even though I can imagine she was really tired she was very kind and very polite, smiling all the time.
She knew lots of things and stories about all the places we were travelling through.
It is a hard job and I think you have to be very tough to do it but I guess it pays off, not only in what money is concerned.
