I personally would yell back even if it meant being fired. I am not going to tolerate abuse from anyone and a job isn't worth that much trouble.

I swore that no one ever will yell at me.....as long as I live...last time he yelled at me...I had a very large and steaming hot cup of coffee in my hand....I told him "if he ever screamed at me again, I will throw this F* U* C* K* I* N* G hot cup of coffee in this face" ....well, that did the trick...he never yelled at me again....matter-of-fact....he respects me now and we are best friends!!!!!!!!

I would ask him to lower his voice. You dont have to take verable abuse. I dont know where you work but most places have a main supervisor that you can go to and if the abuse has been reported by other employees it makes the boss look bad . If you cannot get this thing settled send a fast e-mail to your state's Bureau of internal affairs and your local Better Business bureau. It may take a little time but could be worth it. In my case i would simply knock the crap out of him and walk off but I have more than enough retirement to live on.

Listen to what the boss is saying. If its good critical criticism then take it in stride and see if you can change a few things. If the boss is just yelling because that's what they always do pretend to listen and say ok and let it blow over. If the boss is attacking you personally for something then calmly look them in the eyes and say I believe you are mistaken and out of line with your tone towards me and explain to them your perception of the situation and see if the situation can be resolved. Always though listen and then react. Never let the boss see your upset or they've gotten too you. A lot of times its their perception of a situation or second hand information they've received to set them off. Just keep you cool and let it blow over.

well, if it's my fault, i'm worth being yelled at, i'd say im sorry. but if it's not, i'll tell him he doesnt have the right to yell at me. i dont care if defends himself using the "im-your-boss-and-i-can-fire-your-as-s kinda thing. i would probably yell right back at him., i'd say "i quit" before he can say "you're fired". i'm fired, so what? it's not the end of the world. i can still find a new job. i dont wanna stay being humiliated while i know im not fired, it's not worth it.

It happened a time or two (I relocated out of state) but no, I didn't yell back, nor would I. I tried to remain stoic and not look like a fool like she did. I don't need to appear dominant, angry nor controlling to be bigger than someone like that. That yelling thing is a personal problem I refuse to make my own. They always get there's anyhow. Karma, boy! Whoooo!

In this day and age a boss would have to be pretty stupid to think that he or she could keep quality employees around long be yelling. I'd like to think that most aren't that dumb, but maybe I'm wrong.

I never had a boss yell...I would be shocked, but then I think if something like that happened that they would under some sort of pressure and just cracked...then I would think that they had a problem and would contact human resourses about it...

Depends on what he is saying and why he's saying it. Also depends what kind of mood and I am in. I'm usually very mellow and sometimes too nice, but if someone says the rights things(or wrong things rather), I'll go nuts yelling at someone.

Usually, I shut down towards the person yelling at me. Later, after I have thought about it, I think, I should have said this or that.

My boss doesn't yell at anybody. He does condescension very well in a normal tone of voice. You just listen, nod and walk away and try to forget about it because there is nothing that can be done about it .
