i am unable to alter the screen resolution and everything is large.been in to the display settings but the option to alter the resolution is not available..is there something else to select or alter first

install your video drivers

u have not reinstalled the graphics/video driver.
U should be having it with all the material u might have saved while u got this computer or else go on the net and find it.
Once u have installed the right driver u will be able to change the resolution

You need to install the driver for your Video card. Windows XP is fairly good at picking these up. If you don't have the driver go to the video card's manufacture's website or windowsupdate.com

You need to install the graphics driver. Your computer system should have a disk. If not get on the net and find out what kind of graphics accelerator you have and they'll point you to the right manufactor. Usually the computer model on the computer itself is the answer.

it sounds to me like you have not installed the graphics card drivers windows xp has alot but if its a newish graphics card windows will just run it as a standard card fine out the make and model of your card the go to www.driverguide.com and get the newest drivers.
