One reason is politics in the Middle East there is warehouses full of food but many of the Muslims have been convinced by Islamic leaders that all Americans want to poison Muslims so the food goes uneaten. Some have rules that food that may have been augmented by science can not be distributed, even though half the people are starving to death. Then of course there is Darfur Sudan where Christians had to run for their lives from Muslim head hunters, and ended up in over crowded refuge camps without access to food.

In the world is plenty owned by a few! To get some of the plenty you have to have something the few want. Unfortunately, there are some in this world born with nothing and will never have anything. Why, they don't have anything to trade or use to buy these things of plenty.
True there are some that will try to give what they can to the needy, but you never ever rarely ever see someone giving away something of value to the needy.
But occassionally you do, bless them.

Corrupt dictators use FOOD as a way to control their populations.
Look what Saddam did with the Oil For Food program. He starved his own people to make it look like the west was doing it!
Other dictators in the third world do the same thing.

Bad efficientness. It's the same as although most of the planet is covered in water there's many countries lacking in water. Because we use what's around us without using tools effectively to convert excess resources into useful resources.

Dictators hoard the supplies for themselves and the militaries that keep them in power.
You can't raise crops in sand, yet people live in the desert and starve.

People need to earn their own way in this world, and those who don't have fewer options. Sad thing is, people keep bringing more people into the world when they can't even feed themsleves, let alone their children.
