This is regarding how American culture has us thinking that the European way of beauty is the way it should be if we are to be attractive to any man. It really hurts to see Black women damaging their hair by chemical relaxers or hot pressing combs or dying their hair blond. I think as Black women we need to embrace our natural beauty (kinky hair, broad noses, round butts, etc..). We cannot help the way God made us. I am a Black woman myself and everyday I wear my hair in 2 french braids and my hair is chemical free and I'm loving it.
I am not trying to anger anyone, but I was just curious on what your views are on this?

I do realize that a small percentage of black women don't have some of the features that I mentioned, but the majority of us do.

I am not trying to put down Black women who like to relax their hair because I used to have that done also back in the day. So I apologize to those women who felt I was putting them down.

Im biracial so Im answering for my black side lol, hope that dont bother you BUT I just want to say that I agree with you. I myself stopped using relaxers and stopped using certain hair products to keep my hair natural and find it to be so much more beautiful this way. Sometimes when I look at women like Oprah although I like her, I think that its a little foolish that women pay for this hair that is so different from the kind they were born with. And you'd think, with Oprah's heart and mind that she would be the type to embrace what is naturally hers. I love the ''puff balls'' afros, etc you know what I mean, I think all women are so much prettier natural looking, goes to show what society tries to shove down people's throats huh? Hopefully more people will start thinking like you and I, and therefore, be happier with themselves as people as well as their physical appearences! :)

Welll...I've relaxed my hair just because it's more manageable for my life style. But I do agree with you on this subject. The world should see that there are beautiful dark skinned women...but where I come from the guys love big lips, big butts, curly hair and big brown eyes. I'm also partly Indian so my features are different than an African American women. But I still wouldn't change my Afro-Caribbean looks drastically. Relaxing my hair is as far as I'm ever going to go.
P.S. I'm Haitian and Trinidadian.

Yeah, I'm so not a black woman. but I agree. I just wanted to read your question and see what you had to say to black women only. I personally like black peoples natural hair. but I don't feel bad if they relax it or dye it. (though going blond is a bit extreme) anyways. what can you do about it? just wear your hair and love your butt the way it is.

I fully agree with your views. A person should be content with what he or she is rather than imitating others which may not last long! Be what you are and be proud of what you have! You will feel a lot better that way and be respected too by others!

I am a black woman and I do relax my hair. Everyone regardless of color has a right to do what they wanna do with their hair. Just because you prefer yours natural and nappy doesn't mean everyone else does! I like looking my best. I do not have a broad nose and I think you are being very stereotypical. All black women don't have big butts either. Pay attention to yourself and being proud of who you are is great, but leave other people opinions and hairstyles alone. What a silly question this is.

i dont think its self hatred as much as it used to be, im starting to appreciate the fact that women take chances and decide if they like something they go ahead and do it. There are extreme cases of course. Ive decided to let me be people. I do understand where you are coming from though.

I think everyone should be themselves but some black girls like to do that. One of my best friends is a black girl and she had her hair dyed blonde for four months

I relax my hair because I want to. Plus its more manageable. I don't do it because I hate who I am.
