Yes, if they were reasonably sound and not just an off-the-wall party.

History shows us that it's not likely to happen.
Recent history should have taught it's own lessons.
The green party voters would have voted for Gore if there had not been a green party candidate. We would never have had Bush and we would have had a very Ecology friendly president.
In this case the third party actually defeated the candidate that would have furthered their cause.
The green party will not win but it may help keep Republicans in office.
The parties have some similarities but the most common is that the politicians in both are trying to keep their job and their life style. Voters have to pressure these individuals to do their jobs with a conscience instead of a personal bankbook.

I could see how a different kind of Party system can work, right now, it just isn't working, Both parties have been guilty of voting against the other side, just for the sake of it, I do believe the Neocons have been much worse at it, much worse, but the Democrats have done it also, I would love to see the entire thing shuffled up and started over in certain ways. You know Political parties change, this republican party is not the same one of 30 years ago, just like the Democratic party is not the same one of 30 years ago. In many ways they have similarities, but still in many many ways they are different, there are all politicians and in a way, that's a ugly word in itself

There ARE third party alternatives, but no one supports them. I read somewhere that the Green Party was put into place by Republicans to steal votes from the Democrats. Who knew ?

That is the answer, BUT... It won't happen any time soon. At this time over 55% of the voting population either works for or is being supported by, some facet of government (city, county, state, fed, SS, welfare, SSI).
With all these voting predominantly for more and "better" government.... the only viable third party, Libertarian, who's platform is for far LESS government doesn't stand a chance. The gun is loaded against them from the outset.

I think that both parties have major problems and a third party would be great. However, since this country is so divided between the two major parties, we are forced to pick the better of the two since a third party has almost no chance.

They would have to be already established with a platform like the Libertarians. They have all the right ideas: like smaller government, personal responsibility, eliminating unfair and oppressive taxation. If the Democrats won't and the Republicans won't the Libertarians will make the changes that are needed.

Political parties are merely an illusion, because THIS secret and evil group has been in control of everything for far too long!...

It would actually have to be viable. We have five parties at
present.

Thank you very much, while you're up.
