I think the majority of people who keep racism alive today are those who constantly preach about the subject in the first place. For example, the Reverend Jesse Jackson. He always turns every situation that involves an African American into someone being racist. However I never can see the racism within any of the situations. Therefore, because he brought racism to the situation for no reason by mentioning it he is keeping it alive. Opinions....?

I would like to add....

I know racism does still exist today amoung all races and cultures. I'm just commenting on those who feel it is in situations that I don't think it is. I am not racist myself, so please don't be rude.

FIRST OF ALL Arrabbiat, I am a 25 year old woman. Second, my white parents never in any way EVER taught me to be racisit. You again have proven my point. You are keeping racism alive by saying I am racist when I came right out before and said I WAS NOT. You made my comment a racist comment. Thank you for yet again prooving my point.

And furthermore Arriabbiat, how do you even know I'm white? I could be Hispanic, or Polish for all you know. Because you didn't even know what race I was, you just assumed and started spitting out your hostility towards white people. You sound racist to me...think about it.

Those that keep racism alive are those that make money by doing so.
It's a form of income for those that want "Donations for the cause"
like the KKK the White advocacy groups. Jesse Jackson, Rev Helms. and those others in the Race Industry.
They write books and papers for sale, using the race issue for a draw. The way to stop the racist attitude is to quit supporting those that make a living off of it.
People like those in the KKK are losing ground in the white community. They are getting the hint albeit gradually that they are an embarrassment and unwanted by their own race. The Nazi movement is feeling the pressure too. Both entities are now keeping to themselves more than they were twenty years ago because they see the white faces that hate the ideals they live by.

The sad thing is, racism has become an industry and people really don't want to give up money.

Racism is obviously kept alive by racist people. Just because someone shines a light on blatant racism, doesn't mean he's keeping it alive, it just means he wants us to see it and change our ways. I'm not sure where you live, but where I live I see racism everyday. Sometimes it's harsher than others but I see it EVERYDAY. Who wants to live in a culture that is complacent in situations of racism? I don't. So I admire people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for putting a mirror to our faces.

I think we all are keeping it alive in some form. Little things we say in front of our kids they we might not really mean is absorbed. Things about other countries or how a certain race/culture dresses makes kids especially see differences. Also, sometimes when you live in an area that is completely one race it makes it hard for child to not see the differences when they do see someone of a different race. then it is the job of the parents to make sure the kids know it is not right to judge other just because of their skin, religion or nationality.

It is just human nature to be distrustful of others they don't know about. If even within racial fractions are people who don't totally trust each other, how can people of different races tust each other? Trust is a difficult word, its somthing that has to be built over time. But with history being as complicated as it is, there will never be absolute trust and therefore racism will always exist. With its existence, will there always be people who will make use of it, take advantage of it, feel for it because people need to be part of something, to take a side. There is always a market for something that people can feel strongly for. Race and religion are both just one of those stronger subjects.

Hello everyone,

Racism, is practiced even among races of the same color. If you are white and some hot headed red neck doesn't like you, he/she refers to you as a "*****".

If you are black and another black doesn't like you then they refer to you as "Uncle Tom".

My experience is that the ones that are being racist are greedy and self-centered, etc. They want something that someone else has and so they have to belittle them by trying to bad mouth or slander the other person.

Have more class than these people that are in this low class population of greedy people and ignore them. They will not succeed in the end.

You forgot to mention the Neo-Nazi and KKK members also. In this country it was White people who started the racial hatred towards Black people or anyone else of darker skin than theirs.
I think humans in general have some kind of prejudices. The only way racism will end is when God's Kingdom steps in to root out all evil.

When I was younger we never thought about people of a different race and if we met them they were no different to ourselves. It is so sad these days that racism has been made such an ugly word.
One of the nicest ladies I have ever met was of a different colour and we got on really well never once thinking how our colour was not the same.

Hail and Greetings

I think that some people fear people who are different.
Some people have had bad experiences with people of different races and that has made them fear and hate all of that group
Some people were raised to hate.

Other people have no experience with other people. I wasn't close with White people until i went to college. I used to fear them because of the stories I heard from my grandparents, aunts and uncles.

When I went to college, I learned not all White people are mean and I learned how to deal with the ones who are.

As long as there is fear and ignorance, some people will be racialist.

It's going to get worse before it gets better. I think people want their space so they can live life in peace, but we're being forced to except what others feel is right and it is getting to us.
