no teenage boy wants to talk to their mother about masturbation. just make sure he has a lock on his bedroom door and dont worry about it.

If he is in his room with the door closed and when you walk in he heads directly to the bathroom and acts upset. He may have been masturbating. I know that is difficult for you to hear as a mother, but he is at that age. The acting angry is probably the easiest defense for getting embarassed and running off is probably because he doesn't want you to see him with an erection.

If you are seeing that scenario unfold, definitely give him some privacy. Boys that age get erections with or without warning and it can be very embarrassing for them. He is perfectly normal in this case. I have two sons and it shocked me when they went through that stage too. My boyfriend is a teacher and he also teaches sex ed., he really helped me understand the pubescent boy and that all this stuff is normal.

His voice going deeper is a sure sign. Pimples. An interest in girls. A desire for privacy at home. Taking more pride in his appearance. A broadening of the shoulders and a loss of "baby fat."

Please always respect a closed door. Don't knock and immediately barge in on your son. Should you ever accidently catch him in the act, say "excuse me" and leave. Afterwards apologize that you witnessed it and tell him that it's a perfectly natural thing to do - which it is - then let it go.

As an aside, please make sure your son is totally informed about wearing a condom EVERY TIME. It takes just once to get a sexually transmitted disease or to start a pregnancy. And make sure he knows that should anything every happen, it's best to let you know immediately because waiting is not going to make it better but always worse and limiting on your choices if it's a pregnancy.

Good luck mom!

Your son is becoming a young man, and as a parent, I think that privacy is key.

He's not old enough to have a lock on his door, but I would suggest knocking before you enter. Let HIM open the door when you knock. That will keep you from seeing too much.

Boys masturbate, obviously, but if he feels like he can do it privately, he won't be as inclined to keep other secrets from you, as well.

If he's thirteen, he's masturbating. He's an adolescent; it's a given. Always knock on his door -- never walk in unnanounced. Same goes for the bathroom -- give him privacy. If a door's half-open, knock on the wall. Nothing's more embarrassing for a teen than to have his mom walk in on him.

It is perfectly normal for teens to explore. Have a heart to heart talk with your son, and let him know the feelings he is having is all part of becoming a man and allow him his privacy. I went through the same with my son and spoke with his guidance councillor about it. He reassured me and everything worked out okay.

Don't ask him but you can be sure he is already mastrubating. That usually begins when boys turn 12.Put a lock on his door and don't explain why have you put it there.Just tell him to use it.And always knock on the door of the room where he is.

At 13, he most likely has started. Why on earth do you want to know the signs? It's not of your business and it's also completely normal.

I really suggest a parenting book.

just about every guy jerks off at some point in their life. its normal. there isnt anyway to stop it.. you cant watch him all the time, he would just end up doing it when he goes at night to bed or something.. but you can have some control, make sure he isnt watching any porn or anything.. watch the computer and check the history, etc. and block any channels that would have nudity or anything.
thats about all you can do

Put a lock on his door and tell him to use it!

Most boys do it in the shower though, less mess and there is a lock on the bathroom door.
