Hi! I'm the mother of happy, healthy 11 month old identical twin girls. Here's some thoughts:
1. Twin pregnancies are automatically categorized as "high risk". Don't panic, this just means you'll be going to the doctors more often and be monitored a little more closely.
2. It's natural to worry but don't worry too much. I worried about everything - bed rest, NICU time, giving birth, etc. Now I just kind of wish I'd spent more of that time relaxing or sleeping! :-) I will say, that if you notice something unusual or are worried about something don't hesitate to call your doctor. That's what she/he is there for! You should never be afraid to call her.
3. My pregnancy went really well. My only major twin symptom was that I had horrible morning sickness. (Although, to be fair, I've met twin moms who had none and singleton moms who had it worse.) I didn't have any complications or pre-term labor and at 36weeks/2days I gave birth via scheduled C-section. They were 5lb2oz and 6lbs 1oz, had no NICU time and left the hospital with me.
4. The most common problems with twins are if they are identical twins and share a placenta there's the possibility of having twin to twin transfusion where one twin gets more nutrition than the other. If they share a placenta then you'll probably get more growth/level2 ultrasounds. The other most common problem is pre-term labor or premature birth. Most doctors consider 37 weeks to be "full term" for twins (compared to 40 weeks for one baby). I've met moms who gave birth at 25week and you'd never guess that their beautiful 3 year olds were premature. I also read an article in Babytalk magazine that with the technology these days babies born at 28+ weeks now have an awesome chance off survival.
5. You might want to check out the message boards at www.twinstuff.com Those ladies were awesome and really helped me during my pregnancy. Also, check and see if there is a local mothers of multiples or mothers of twins club in your area. I don't know what I'd do with the club! You can find your local one at www.nomotc.com (National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs)
Congrats on the twins and good luck!

I'm pregnant with b/g twins now, due in March. This is my second pregnancy, I already have a little boy who is 15 months. Twins run in my family so I am hoping my body will hold up as well as my grandmother's did, she had to be induced because the babies wanted to stay in there forever. :o)
I have read that some people do have their twins very early but for the most part I think there will be warning signs...high blood pressure, low fluids, etc. I am 26 weeks now and everything looks great so far. Just an FYI, my friend had twins at 33 weeks and they are fine now. A little stay in the NICU, one as long as a month and they get therapy here and there but otherwise they are perfect little people. Good luck!

I am the worst twin story mom their is I think. I have twin daughters and one has severe brain damage. Dont worry though her condition was caused by them being a special kind of twin. NO membrane between them and same placenta. If your doctor had seen that on the ultrasound he would have told you. I also had morning sickness so bad I thought I was going to die. My girls were born 9 weeks early. I had preterm labor starting at 25 weeks
On the bright side though, I am also a twin and my moms pregnancy went very smooth, we were born 6 weeks early and were small but healthy. Most moms have healthy twins. So try not to worry too much
Chances are they will be born early but not always. 35 weeks is considered full term for twins. I have know moms over due with twins at 41 weeks though! If they know you are going to deliever early they can give your steriods to help your babies. The best thing you can do is relax and follow your doctors advice.

i have twin boys that are 21 mts. my pregnancy went well until i was 29 weeks, i started fighting pre-term labor. most mom's of multiples that i have talked to started having problems at 29 weeks also. just take it easy more then you think, try not to be on your feet to much. i started having preterm labor and they thought they would not get it stopped, but the good news is i kept them in until 35 weeks. just set yourself goals like, i can make it until 31 weeks, then when you meet a goal, set a new one.
you can do it! best of luck!
