There is no difference in them for all intensive purposes.... There are a few locations that only accept Visa and there are a few that only accept MasterCard, but for the most part they are accepted at just about everywhere. I would go with the one with the lowest interest rate. The only major credit card different than the rest is American Express. They advertise a no limit card, but they don't tell you the balance has to be paid off every month. They have started a pay per month card too, but only recently.

MasterCard is one company and Visa is another. Whether one works better for you than another depends on what financial institution you get the MasterCard or Visa from.

For example, Capital One issues Visa -- but is Capital One the best deal for you? Depends on if you're looking for lowest interest rate or some other benefit.

Another example is Citibank which issues MasterCards. They have the ThankYou Network program. But if you cannot pay your balance off every month, it's totally not worth paying their high interest rate.

There are tons of different financial institutions out there offering different deals. You might want to check out http://www.bankrate.com/brm/rate/cc_home.asp.

Mastercard is slightly more popular I believe. Moreover their ads are better. However the best credir cards are from AmericanExpress.
