Would this be good for say listening to music, downloading photos, watching movies and burning cds?

yes, that would be an awesome laptop for that! here is the one I got for my g/f for x-mas: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2108768&CatId=17 and I got an extra 512 megs of ram for $66

Are you paying for a sparkling person-friendly computer? if you're any new computer with living house windows 7 OS will "browse the internet" in case you opt for AMD or INTEL purely make the alternative upon that. Any processor will function a fact like surfing the internet.

yeah sounds good, but i would try for a pentium 4 instead of a celeron. it's known as a better processor in general.

There is nothing wrong with the specs that you have put down for your requirements. I would how ever look for a DVD+/- RW burner not a ROM.

everything but the ram. if you are going to upgrade to vista when it comes out, double that ram. If you are sticking with XP, that amount is fine for now.
