When I was shopping for infant car seats, I asked the salesperson (at BabiesRUs) if all the infant car seats fit in a shopping cart. He said, "No, they are not meant for that." Interesting, because they seem to fit just about every cart, even latching right on! If you're not supposed to put the car seat on that part, what are you supposed to do, put it right in the basket? Where the heck would you put your groceries? That just doesn't make sense to me.

Thats interesting! I always clipped it onto the cart in the front, although I do see people out the baby in the basket and I agree...where do the groceries go then?!

Yes the fit, yes we all do it, but NO they were not made for that. They have not been tested as being safe for that use. The salesperson did a good job telling you they were not meant for that, had you used it that way and something happened then you could have sued and said "But the salesperson said it was made for that"

Just a side note--my friends baby titled the cart over on the ground because the carseat made the cart too top/front heavy. Think it might have been a little cart not sure but he got 3 stiches

Mine fit right on the seat part of the cart of most carts. If it wasnt made to fit carseats my car seat had an area that was groved to prevent slipping. I would get one of those shopping cart pads and keep it in the car in case your seat just doesnt fit right, then just lay baby in that making sure they cant fall out there the legs go. Good luck, search online for some helpful products.

It fits, but neither the store nor the carseat company wishes to be liable if your seat falls, or the cart rolls or falls over, or whatever..

Honestly it isn't safe. The seat doesn't really latch it can come off and it is too much weight for the cart, not to mention grocery carts don't have brakes. I always just used a baby carrier, if not get one of the store's carts with a baby seat.

Also, CAR SEATS ARE MEANT FOR CARS. They are not meant for your baby to spend extended periods in. There are some studies that suggest babies do not get adequate oxygen in a carseat.

You would not believe the number of injuries caused by grocery cart accidents. Some carts have the built in carseats if not you must place the seat in the basket it is the only safe way.

I suspect that the sales person didn't have a clue what he was on about.
Your seat will probably fit in the shopping trolley since they are manufatured especially for car seats to be attached to them.

Theoretically it's not safe, but no one wants to take any chances with babies. Lots of people do it with good results.

I wore my daughter in a sling when I went shopping. She liked it better so I actually got to get my shopping done.

Mine states it fits in the carts. I don't like it because it tips them back alittle but it sounds like the salesman didn't know his job. I believe mine is Graco and it is great!!!
