Violent video games are harming the brains of young teenagers, scientists have found. The effects include increased activity in the part that governs emotional arousal.
This is accompamied by a fall in activity in the region associated with control, focus and concentration.
The research was carried out by a team at the University School of Medicine in Indanapolis.
Team leader Professor Vincent Mathews said: "Playing a certain type of violent video game may have different short-term
effects than playing a non-violent, but exciting, game."
His study involved 44 adolescents who played a violent or non-violent video game for 30 minutes.
They then performed a series of tasks measuring inhibition, concentration, and emotional responses.
The group that played the violent game showed a loss of concentration and self control, coupled with increased emotion.
Further research is planned looking at the long-term effects of violent video games on the players.

This study seems to think so: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/03122006/140/violent-video-games-harm-brain.html
From what I read thats still not really enough research. But if it were true I wouldnt care too much. Too much of anything is a bad thing. Im sure watching violent films would have a similar effect considering alot of 18 rated films are much more violent and graphic than any game. (considering films use real actors where as games they are just pixels)
The fact is if you sit at your computer all day playing violent games all day everyday its not going to be good for you. It would be the same if you just spent all your time watchin SAW 1,2,3 all day.

Violent games, violent films, videos, DVDs - any or all of these are harmful to a young impressionable mind. That's why you hear about these high school killings in America - it's because they're acting out the things they've witnessed on screen.

There is much speculation that Violent Games/TV/Movies may have an affect on how we relate to reality. They may not harm as far as a physical harm, but, more of a moral harm.
I remember years ago there was a Soap called Dallas and the man J.R. (Larry Hagman), he was on I Dream of Jennie before that I think. Anyway, in an interview he said women would come up to him on the street and slap him and tell him he was a bad man!
So, we see from Mr. Hagman's situation, people can distort fantasy with reality.
True, this may have just been women, may be blonds ? Hee! Hee! Sorry, that just joking, but, you should see what I saying.

Yes, they ingrain bad values in the child's mind and encourage- rather than stop- them. This is especially true for small children who will be influenced by the slightest things.
The above is even more true with games that racially discriminate or are in anyway biased (the child might start screaming "Kill the Europeans!!! Kill them!!! as all children do when they're playing video games, so at the mention of European they might be led to violent actions). Such is especially true with the following game:

This is a tough one to answer. It wouldn't do me any harm but it must for some kids. There have been many times when kids have committed serious crimes and it has come down to 'violent games'. It must affect the brains of some people, weak kids and the such.

When my brother played resident evil 4 (i think) I was shocked at some of the stuff in it, but he shrugged it off with a laugh and told me I was a wuss bc it's all fake. Now he wants to be a doctor but he can't stand the thought of cutting apart a real human being in med school
So basically, if you're going to hurt someone in real life, a video game is not going to be the catalyst. You have to have other major problems. but I'm not saying give resident evil to a 10 year old. We just have to exercise personal judgment and logic.
Besides, what about all the horror movies out there like hostel and saw. They are by far worse than any video game I've ever played

Yes...Especially the kids, because they are impressionable.
Have we not noticed that there is a higher percentage of juveniles on the wrong side of the law and or just generally in trouble, than adults.?
If kids or anyone for that matter spent all their time entertainment watching and or playing violent games in the name of fun, would they then not head on down the streets acting out the violence in the name of FUN..?

It depends on how easily distracted a person is.
Some people don't get any harm but yes games do cause harm to the brain. They also make us a bit more alert which is good.
